Globetrotter, I visited:
- Asia: China, Japan (I live there), South Korea (I lived there too), and Taiwan.
- Europe: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France (I was born there), Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
- North America: Canada, and the USA (I lived there too).
A few thoughts:
- I visited quite a few places in South Korea, north and south, big cities and the countryside, not just Seoul.
- I extensively explored Japan during my 20 years there, visiting places, doing local activities with artisans, attending festivals, etc.
- Unexpectedly, my best experience going through borders was in China and my most stressful was in the USA. I was much younger when I entered the USA, which may explain the stress.
- Unsurprisingly, my most confusing experience arriving in a country was in Japan (I did not speak the language when I arrived for my internship).
- Interestingly, my knowledge of the written Japanese language helped me a lot in China (symbols for entrances/exits, “fish” and “meat” easily recognized on menus of restaurants only in Chinese).
